Nxamaseri is a small, privately owned luxury lodge built on a heavily wooded island in one of the world's most renowned wilderness areas. This camp is situated in the so-called Panhandle of the Okavango Delta. The Panhandle is surrounded by tranquil river channels and expansive floodplains. The lodge affords guests a fantastic and very affordable way to experience all the gifts the Okavango wetland system has to offer, and the specialities of camps along the Panhandle are angling and birding. Nxamaseri is one of the oldest camps in the Okavango Delta. It was established in the early 1980's by PJ and Barney Bestelink. PJ, an experienced guide and lodge owner, spent months exploring the permanent water channels of the Delta in search of the perfect location for his home and camp. He favoured the Nxamaseri Channel for its beauty and seclusion, and eventually elected to build his camp on a large, shady island hidden in the Nxamaseri waterways. PJ, an avid fisherman, used Nxamaseri Island Lodge to pioneer fly-fishing in Botswana. He remains one of the most experienced fly-fishermen in Southern Africa and the camp is Botswana's premier fly-fishing destination. The main lodge complex is centrally situated with spectacular raised views over the Nxamaseri channel and surrounding floodplains. Wooden boardwalks lead to six private brick and thatch chalets with outside decks overlooking the waterways. Bathrooms are en-suite with flush toilets and hot and cold shower facilities, and three-bed chalets are also available. Three meals a day are offered, with times depending on the activities organised for the day. In addition, the lodge has a fully stocked bar, which includes a good wine list. For those seeking the ultimate in tranquillity, a morning or afternoon activity on a mokoro, a traditional dugout canoe, is a must. This is a great way to explore the smaller channels and backwaters of the Okavango. Fishing and birding remain the specialities at Nxamaseri Island Lodge and there is a renewed focus on excursions to the sacred San site, Tsodilo Hills. For non-fishermen, Nxamaseri is still a perfect destination to experience the soul of Africa. With new emphasis on décor and cuisine, the Lodge provides an exclusive and revitalising getaway for the traveller wanting to experience the tranquil and unique nature of Africa. In addition to birding, fishing, excursions to Tsoldilo Hills and mokoro trips, Nxamaseri offers excellent guided walks on nearby islands, accessed by boat or mokoro, giving you the opportunity to experience the intimacy and peace of unspoiled Africa. Exploring the islands on foot is an effective way of relaxing and finding the more timid, forest-dwelling birds in this area. Self-driving to the Lodge is permitted; there is a car park just off the main road and the staff will meet you there with a 4x4 vehicle for the 30 minute transfer to the Lodge. During the flood season from May - September, there is no access to the island by vehicle or foot and guests are transferred from the airstrip or car park by boat.

The Chobe National Park in Botswana is home to the largest elephant population in the world. This magnificent reserve draws life from the Chobe River and is surrounded by protected wildlife sanctuaries. As the region is barrier free, this allows for large numbers of big game to move freely through these protected reserves. Straddling the game rich area between Chobe and Zimbabweâs Matetsi reserve lies the Kasane Forest Reserve. It is here in the Lesoma Valley that one will find Elephant Valley Lodge, uniquely positioned thus offering spectacular game viewing long after guests have left the national park. The lodge has a very active waterhole frequented by numerous species, including elephant, lion, buffalo, and leopard. These sightings present superb photographic opportunities from the comfort and safety of the viewing hide or the lodgeâs main deck areas. Sturdy acacias reach high above the camp, forming large canopies of shade, under which you will find twenty âmeruâ styled luxury safari tents. Each of the spacious tents feature twin beds, mini-safe and en-suite facilities which include an indoor shower and toilet. Your safari experience includes a morning boat cruise on the Chobe River where guests are provided with a magnificent opportunity to view the various species that frequent the Chobe River. Guests then return back to the lodge, where they can while away their time around the pool area or relax in the lounge, recording their morning sightings on a postcard. The afternoon safari takes guests into the Chobe National Park where your qualified guide will interpret the sights and sounds of this wildlife sanctuary. Guests return to the lodge through the Kasane Forest Reserve, providing guests with further opportunity to experience a game drive after dark. Access to the lodge is possible through either Kasane, Victoria Falls, or Livingstone International airport. It is from Livingstone airport where guests can elect to enjoy a one hour vehicle transfer before meeting their guide at the Botswana border. Alternatively one can connect to Kasane on an âAngels and Elephantsâ air transfer, routing over the magnificent Victoria Falls before descending down to where the Chobe and Zambezi River confluence, then skim along the Chobe River, landing at Kasane Airport where your guide will assist you in clearing through customs. The Flight of the Angels and Elephants is the ultimate transfer and sightseeing experience not to be missed. This is the ideal way for couples, families and even small groups to have the opportunity of viewing the Falls and the Chobe River from the air, including Sedudu Island with its numerous game populations. On arrival at either Victoria Falls Airport or Livingstone Airport, you are met at the arrivals hall by your pilot who will then escort you through customs swiftly and efficiently. From here you will board a light aircraft and take off at either airport and enjoy two turns over the impressive Falls, a perfect photographic opportunity and chance to view the falls from above before heading out towards Kasane Airport â adjacent to the Chobe National Park. As you approach the Chobe River, your pilot will descend to a comfortable game viewing height and will fly a circuit over the Chobe River and Sedudu Island where there is every opportunity to view big game from the air. Once you have landed at Kasane Airport, your pilot will once again escort you through customs and it is here you will be met by your Elephant Valley Lodge guide. The transfer from the airport to the lodge is conducted in open air game viewers through the Kasane Forest, a natural extension of the Chobe National Park and takes approximately 25 minutes.
