This system is an intricate labyrinth of waterways, reed beds, islands, floodplains, bush, scrub and trees. However, the river system around Lagoon camp is a maze of ox bow lakes, fossil river beds, reed beds and riverine forests. In the dry season Lagoon offers a mega fauna experience unmatched in Africa with sightings of up to 1 000 elephant in a single game drive. Deception Valley Lodge

Botswana: Central Kalahari: Central Kalahari Game Reserve:
Situated near the centre of Botswana, about 120km due south of Maun, adjoining the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and not far from the famous Okavango swamps, lies the Deception Valley. Fly-In, Safari Lodge, Desert, Wildlife, Game Drives, Safari, Walking /Hiking, Photography, Birding. The fossil valley was first brought to the world's attention in 1985, by the book Cry of the Kalahari written by Mark and Delia Owens, who lived on the pan for seven years studying the brown hyena that live here. The Kalahari is not a true desert though, but rather an arid savannah wilderness - its broad largely featureless plains are clad by sweet grasses and by patches of camel thorn, blackthorn and other acacias. These great forbidding places also manage to sustain their wildlife populations, a surprisingly rich diversity of animals - among them springbok and gemsbok, blue wildebeest, eland, red hartebeest - that are superbly adapted to the bone-dry conditions. Many of them extract water from such unlikely sources as the dew-covered night time plants, from the deep roots of succulents or the moisture-laden wild cucumber and tsamma melon. Others - carnivores such as lion, leopard, hyena and wild dog - slake their thirst on the blood of their prey. The Kalahari also has its indigenous human presence; it is home to the last of the 'traditional' Bushman communities, descendants of the once-dominant semi-nomadic hunter-gatherer inhabitants of the thirst lands. Each unit consists of a luxury twin bedded room with en suite Victorian style bathroom, an outside shower and a private spacious lounge. For your convenience a hairdryer, shaving plugs and bathrobe is supplied. Ceiling fans and mosquito nets are provided as well as a mini bar. The main complex boasts a dining room, lounge and bar area decorated in warm Kalahari colours making use of Bushmen and other African artefacts. From the deck you can view activities at the nearby water hole. A curio shop and small library forms part of the complex. The Lodge has an ethnic African theme and was built to fit into the surrounding bush without altering, damaging or detracting from its ambience and colour. An inviting swimming pool situated close to the main complex, as well as a boma for evening meals, whilst gazing across a clear night sky with its abundance of stars and listening to the enthralling night calls of the wild, completes the main complex area. Game drives in open 4x4 vehicles. Bird watching - over 200 species, from the deck of the main lodge or in a hide at one of the water holes. Guided walks with the Bushmen to explore their culture, survival and hunting skills and their extra- ordinary knowledge of the veld and animal life. Night drives to explore the nocturnal species. Nature walks with experience guides. Specialized guided walks - survival of plant, animal and man in this arid semi desert.

The eight spacious tents are unique and were designed by us specifically for this camp. Each one is built on a raised teak deck, laid out with maximum comfort and privacy in mind. The tents have an entrance foyer with a reading and writing area, en-suite bathrooms with Victorian claw foot bathtubs, 'his and hers' washbasins and flush toilets. The bathrooms lead out to a reed enclosed open-air shower with hot and cold running water. Each secluded tent has its own sundeck, and is set back among the trees. The endless vistas from the large windows and decks across the vast plains, make Lebala one of the finest wilderness camps in Africa. Open grasslands scattered with Illala Palms stretch to the south and west of Lebala. The perennial and southerly flowing Kwando river disappears into the vast marshes before emerging as the Linyanti river, flowing in a northeasterly direction. The triangle formed in Namibia by this direction change is home to the Mamili National Park. Mouth-watering fare is prepared by our chefs and served in the open-sided dining room. After dinner there is a wonderful campfire around which to sip a coffee or enjoy a nightcap. As you drift off to sleep, you will often hear hippo grazing out of water near your tent. In the warmer months, feel free to take a refreshing swim in the Lebala pool! Lebala has a staff complement of 18 to cater to our guests. The Garden Lodge

Botswana: Chobe: Kasane:
The lodge has eight bedrooms (4 doubles and 4 family size), each with its own bathroom and private verandah overlooking the Chobe River. We are truly a garden lodge. The combination of unlimited water and constant sunshine allows hibiscus, frangipani, bougainvillea, banana and paw paw to grow in profusion. Guests love the garden and the prolific birds attracted to the flowers and fruits. The lounge and dining room are furnished in teak and wicker. All decor comes from Botswana or one of the surrounding countries. Guests have the choice of sitting inside under the thatched roof or outside by the swimming pool. Guests have the choice of either a Continental or English breakfast. Our lunches are a buffet with a choice of hot dishes, salads, cold meat and cheeses. Dinner is a set menu, however, our kitchen will happily cater for guest's individual requirements. Generally, guests sit at one table, which allows them to meet each other and often the conversation continues well after the meal has ended! The bar is upstairs and overlooks the Chobe River. It is informally known as the Map Room due to the large number of maps hung on the walls. The lodge activities revolve around game viewing by vehicle and boat into The Chobe National Park. Chobe is a hot, dry region and for most of the year the wildlife is dependent on the river for water, making for truly spectacular game drives and boat cruises. Elephants are seen in their hundreds and buffalo in their thousands. Lions are an almost daily sighting, as are impala, sable antelope, giraffe, warthog and numerous other species. Traditionally, early morning game drives and late afternoon boat cruises are safari routine; we are more flexible. We know from experience a herd of bull elephants drinks in the middle of the day before swimming across the Chobe to feed in Namibia. If guests particularly want to see swimming elephants, we are happy to change the routine by taking the boat in the middle of the day and a game drive in the late evening. This flexibility is not possible in the bigger lodges. The Chobe River is a tributary of the mighty Zambezi River, home to the famed tiger fish. We supply all the tackle needed to catch these monsters, but respectfully request guests to practise catch & release. Guests seeking an insight to tribal life will appreciate a mokoro (a traditional dugout canoe) trip to villages in Namibia. Your guide will take you from Botswana to Namibia by mokoro and on foot through the villages. He is a local and will enjoy the opportunity to explain village life and traditional beliefs and customs to you.
